POLICING: The number one priority for the mayor must be to make our streets safe. Under Khan knife crime is up across the city 52%, robbery up 59%, and gun crime up 30%, Murder up 24% and burglary up 37%. This is against a broad backdrop of crime falling nationally. Yet as violent crime escalates out of control, Khan is reported to be planning “to defund the police by £110 million” but has spent “almost £100 million on PR” over four years and wasted £billions on projects Londoners do not want! Who in their right mind would vote for this man?
COMMUNITY POLICING: Community Police Teams on the beat are a key to rebuilding trust. I also want to see police teams more reflective of each communities’ ethnic demographics. For example, all-white teams performing ‘stop and search’ in predominantly BAME communities just adds fuel to those intent on stirring up anarchy and division.
ACTION TO PROTECT WOMEN: Since Khan took office there has been 36,905 rapes reported, with only 5.5% leading to charges and a further 59,933 sexual offence allegations with less than 6,883 resolved. Sexual assaults against women on the Tube have increased 43%. I will introduce CCTV on all public transport and 24/7 patrols in areas where women are most vulnerable.
TOUGH ON CRIME: We must get tougher on crime, making carrying weapons a serious offense. I also propose the use of hand-held metal detectors (as used in airports) as a less invasive method for ‘stop and search.’ Such measures are to protect our children who otherwise could be the next victim.
YOUTH CENTRES: We must do far more for our youth. There is a direct correlation between the decline of youth centres and the rise in violent gang culture.
DEFENDING CLADDING VICTIMS: Immediate action must be taken to ensure that a tragedy like Grenfell Tower never happens again! The developers along with negligent local authorities should be responsible for all costs. The leaseholders are the innocent victims.
